DAILY ITINERARY
SATURDAY, APRIL 21 FLIGHT TO TEL AVIV

DEPARTURE TO ISRAEL

Tonight we depart from Johannesburg to Israel.

DAY 1: SUNDAY, APRIL 22 CAESAREA / ACCRE / ROSH HANIKRA
Massada Dead Sea
Caesarea Rosh Hanikra

Arrive in Tel Aviv, meet our guide and embark on a tour of Caesarea, once a proud Roman port city dating back to the time of Pontius Pilate. View the monumental Roman amphitheater built in the days of Christ. Continue to Accre to visit the old city. We then drive north to Rosh Hanikra, to view caves carved out of the rock by rain and the sea and a long tunnel has been made by man to connect the caves and make access easier for visitors.

Dinner & Overnight - Galilee (B,D)

DAY 2: MONDAY, APRIL 23 MEGIDDO / NAZARETH / MT. TABOR
Armageddon & Izrael Valley

Visit Mt. Carmel, where Elijah held a contest against the false prophets of Ba’al. Continue to Megiddo (Armageddon), overlooking the fertile Izrael Valley. Megiddo played a prominent role in the history of the ancient Near East and one of the largest Canaanites cities, controlling the access from Egypt to Mesopotamia, which was the cause for the fiercest battles that took place here. The bible tells about Joshua defeating the Canaanite king of Megiddo, a city which king Solomon built and the site where kings Ahaziah and Joshia killed. For Christians, Armageddon is where forces of God will defeat the forces of Evil in the Final Battle at the End Day. We next travel to Nazareth where Jesus spent the silent years of his life. Visit to the Church of Annunciation and the Synagogue church where Jesus used to preach. We drive past Cana, site of the first miracle where Jesus turned water to wine. We then ascend Mount Tabor “the high mountain apart” that Jesus was transfigured in the eyes of Peter, James and John “and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light” (Matthew 17:2).

Dinner & Overnight - Galilee (B,L,D)

DAY 3: TUESDAY, APRIL 24 SEA OF GALILEE
CAPERNAUM / TABGHA / PETER’S PRIMACY / MT. BEATITUDES / BOAT RIDE/ FISH LUNCH
Feb3 Feb3 Feb3
Capernaum Tabgha Galilee Boat

Visit Capernaum that in old times used to be for a border village on the way to Damascus. The Gospel tells about Jesus leaving Nazareth to settle in Capernaum, which became “his own town” and centre of his activities. From its community of fishermen he chose many of his disciples (Peter, Andrew, James, John and Matthew). View the remains of a synagogue 2-3 centuries earlier than when Jesus taught, though most likely on the same site. Nearby are the remains of an octagonal structure, thought to be built on the remains of Peter’s house. Nearby is Tabgha, where Jesus performed the miracle of the multiplication of the fish and loaves and fed 5000. We next visit Peter’s Primacy, Here Jesus met again with the disciples for the "last breakfast" and restored Peter to himself after the disciple's three denials by asking him three times if Peter loved Jesus. Above on the mountain slopes is Mt. Beatitudes. Below it Jesus gave the Beatitudes and taught on many. Here he also performed many of the miracles. Enjoy a Boat Ride on the Sea of Galilee and hear how Jesus calmed the stormy sea and walked upon these waters. Enjoy a traditional St. Peter’s fish lunch.

Dinner & overnight in Galilee (B,L,D)

DAY 4: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25 NORTHERN GALILEE
CAESAREA PHILIPPI / MT. HERMON

Drive north to the northern tip of Israel to visit the sacred site of Caesarea Philippi. The city Paneas was given to King Herod, where he built a palace to Caesar. His son Phillppi embellished the town and made it his capital. Here also is the Banias water falls and one of the main sources of Jordan River. We then ascend the Mount Hermon and take a cable car to a lookout point to view the Golan Heights. Your guide will explain why this area is so vital to Israel’s security. We drive along the Golan Heights back to our hotel.

Dinner & Overnight in Galilee (B,D)

DAY 5: THURSDAY, APRIL 26 QUMRAN / MASSADA / DEAD SEA
Feb3 Feb3 Feb3
Massada Qumran Dead Sea

Early departure. We drive along the Jordan Valley and past Jericho (we don’t go in), the oldest City of Palms that lies 800m below sea level. Jericho was an important Canaanite town which, after circled by Joshua, fell to the blast of the priests’ trumpets. View Mt. of Temptation in the background. We next visit Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found and ascend Massada by cable car. Our guide will take you on a fascinating tour of this mountain where 960 Jewish defenders organized the last resistance to the Roman Conquerors. Descend Massada to the Dead Sea for an optional float in the salty waters.

Dinner & Night –Dead Sea (B,D)

DAY 6: FRIDAY, APRIL 27 JERUSALEM NEW CITY
YAD VASHEM/ DEAD SEA SCROLLS / JERUSALEM MODEL / HASSE LOOKOUT POINT / VIEW OF BETHLEHEM

We will now ascend Jerusalem the “eternal city” of GOD. Visit to Yad Vashem, a memorial to the Six Million Jews that lost their lives in the Holocaust. We will then visit Shrine of the Book, where on display are the scrolls and Jerusalem Model illustrating how Jerusalem looked at its early days. We stop at Hasse Lookout point to vie the entire city and continue to Kibbutz Ramat Rachel to view Bethlehem.

Dinner & Overnight - Jerusalem (B,D)

Mamila Shopping Centre
Bethlehem
DAY 7: SATURDAY, APRIL 28 JERUSALEM / OLD CITY
MT. OF OLIVES / GETHSAMENE / DOMINUS FLEVIT / WESTERN WALL / BETHESDA / VIA DOLOROSA / ECCE HOMO / HOLY SEPULCHER / ORIENTAL BAZAR / UPPER ROOM / GARDEN TOMB (PRAYER SERVICE) / ROOM OF LAST SUPPER / GALLICANTU
Massada Dead Sea
Garden Tomb Table Mount & Dome of the Rock

Early drive up Mt. Of Olives. Here, overlooking Temple Mount, Jesus taught his disciples, prophesized the destruction of Jerusalem. From here the entire city of Jerusalem unfolds before us. Down the slopes we visit Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus was taken captive. On the steep pathway between the Tomb of the Prophets and the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene is the Franciscan site of Dominus Flevit ("The Lord Wept"). Here it is believed that Christ wept as he foresaw the fate of Jerusalem. From here we enter the Old City. Your guide will tell to you about the battle of Jerusalem’s old city during the 1967 war. Visit the Western Wall the most sacred place for the Jews. Continue to Pools of Bethesda, just north of the temple mount. The pools were probably designed at times Herod the Great for the Jewish inhabitants to purify themselves and here Jesus performed the miracle of healing an infirm man. Visit Ecce Homo Arch - Antonia Fortress where Jesus’s trial took place. Walk through some Via Dolorosa stations. We stop at Church of Holy Sepulcher and we walk through the Oriental Bazaar. Our last visit today is to the Garden Tomb, where some believe it is Golgotha where Jesus was crucified and buried (Prayer service time will be booked). We next go to Mount Zion to visit The Upper room of Last Supper and the church of St. Peter Gallicantu.

Dinner & Overnight - Jerusalem (B,D)

DAY 7: SUNDAY, APRIL 29 FLIGHT HOME
CITY OF DAVID / FREE TIME / DINNER / JAFFA

Visit City of David. The biblical City of David was situated on the southern slope of Mount Moriah. Excavations have provided a rich insight into daily life in and around the Temple percinent. Continue to Hezekia (Siloam) Tunnel dug underneath the Ophel, leading from the Gihon Spring to the Pool of Siloam and was designed as an aqueduct to provide Jerusalem with water during an impending siege by the Assyrians. According to an inscription, two teams excavated the tunnel, one starting at each end of the tunnel and then meeting in the middle. Free time at the Old City before last dinner at Abu Gosh. We then have a short visit to Jaffa before transfer to the airport for a flight home.
